And my garden on my mind.
I'm so funny.
Garden fever has started, which kinda creeps me out (who have I become?!). Sadly, we've been dealing with a lot on the home front and are a little behind on where we were this time last year.
Hubby and I never had the chance to start seedlings indoors. I feel bad, since he built such an awesome seedling system last year. But next year will be different, and it's not going anywhere.
So last weekend (April 11th), we did make some progress by adding dirt/compost to our garden. We went to Santa Fe Sand and Gravel. They had several soil blends to choose from. We choose 1.5 sq. yds. of their Planter's Mix and 1.5 sq. yds. of their Grower's Supreme.
The Planter's Mix is 70% topsoil and 30% compost. So decent filler dirt.
The Grower's Supreme is made of the following:
15% Humus
30% Bark
15% Sand
25% Peat Moss
3% White Pumice
2% Expanded Shale
10% Sheep Compost
I really have no idea what most of that is. But it was beautiful and dark. And this should help level off our garden so water isn't just flowing off of it. Side note: our garden had a slight slope, and with the clay soil, water often ran off before being absorbed. The drip system helps with this, but adding soil and leveling off the garden still made sense to us.
Soil grand total: $115
We transported it ourselves (well - dad, grandpa, and hubby did), so we were not paying any delivery fees.
Garden Before:
Looks so fluffy! We also decided to till up some of the hill on the east side of our property for the creepy crawly plants (i.e., spaghetti squash, pumpkin, watermelon).
So we have some nice mounds ready for those guys:
Also had Lawn Doctor come out this week and fertilize/kill our weeds and crabgrass. They should be coming by to aerate soon as well. And next up is tree trimming. 2014 is the year of the yard.
