I've quickly realized that my intent of having this blog serve as record-keeper has not been as organized as I would like, so I figured since planting is done, now might be a good time to do a quick review and take note of planting dates/varieties and reflect on how it's gone so far. This is gonna be a long one, so feel free to skip ahead and go strait to the video tour!

Pyramid Plants
And without any further ado, here is a little video garden tour I took on Monday, June 10th of our growing progress. FYI - I completely and utterly suck at taking video. This is something I should maybe work on in the future.
March 30th
- Yellow Onions: Direct sow from "sets."
- Asparagus (M. Washington): Direct sow from "crowns." 4 stalks grew and flowered.
- Lettuce (Buttercrunch): Direct sow.
- Kale (Italian Lacinato/Tuscan): Direct sow. Did not produce! A few seedlings grew, but they never got their mature leaves and then just kinda puttered away and died. I'm guessing it was too hot, I think we'll retry in fall.
- Spinach (Bloomsdale - Heirloom): Direct sow, bolted by end May/early June. Try for second harvest in fall.
- Sugar Snap Peas (Oregon Sugar Pod): Direct sow. Crawling away.
- Parsnip (All American): Direct sow. They didn't germinate, I think they didn't get enough water. Re-seeded on 6/1/13, still waiting for germination.
- Carrots (Danvers Half Long): Direct sow. Doing ok.
- Broccoli (variety unknown): Transplant. Week later hit with fungus. Applied fungicide. Currently recovering and growing heads.
- Cauliflower (variety unknown): Transplant. Not recovering as quickly as broccoli from fungus, but getting there.
- Beets (Early Wonder-Heirloom): Direct sow. So far so good.
- Cherry Tomatoes (variety unknown - Heirloom): Transplant. So far so good. Some blooms trying to start, pinching off.
- Tomatoes (Celebrity): Transplant.
- Tomatoes (Early Girl): Transplant.
- Tomatoes (variety unknown): Transplant from a friend that was in poor shape, recovered nicely with transplant.
- Note: All tomatoes are being side-dressed with Tomato-Tone every two weeks, also incorporated into soil at time of transplant.
- Green Pepper (variety unknown): Transplant.
- Orange Pepper (variety unknown): Transplant.
- Red Pepper (variety unknown): Transplant.
- Rhubarb (variety unknown): Transplant from a friend. Recovering nicely.
- Zucchini (Black Beauty): Direct sow with mounds. Up and doing great.
- Spaghetti Squash (Vegetable Spaghetti? That's what it says on the package): Direct sow with mounds, just peeking up.
- Pumpkin (I know it's a sugar variety, package got destroyed): Direct sow with mounds, also just peeking up.
- Cucumber (Straight Eight): Direct sow with mounds.
- Potatoes: Hubby planted potatoes and I honestly have no idea when. They are growing nicely and being hilled as needed.
- Watermelon (variety unknown): All hubby. I know they are in mounds of pure compost/manure.
Pyramid Plants
- Basil (variety unknown): Tried transplanting from seed on 5/11. Died. Transplanted full plants on 5/26 and those are dying too. FU basil. I mean, really? I'm screwing up basil.
- Oregano (Mediterranean): Transplanted seedlings on 5/11. Alive, but not exactly getting bigger.
- Shallots: Planted from "sets" on 5/11. Growing like weeds.
- Parsley (Green Pearl): Transplanted from seedlings on 5/11. Doing good, but not growing a ton. Also transplanted some on 5/26. Half died, other half going strong
- Chives (variety unknown): Seeds did not work. Transplanted full plants on 5/26 - seem to be doing ok.
- Strawberries (variety unknown): Planted roots on 5/11. Started off well, now some are dying off. I wonder if our beautiful pyramid just doesn't have enough room for the root system or if I planted them too close together. Probably the latter.
